10 Green Eco Christmas Tips

Is Santa a good role model when it comes to being eco friendly? Apart from the eco slay which only uses 12 reindeers to power up, I see Santa as being a big contributor to our Christmas eco crisis.

The reindeers especially Rudolf emits a fair share of carbon dioxide after every meal, countless trees are sacrificed for all the wrapping paper used for presents and the toy factories in the North Pole must be emitting way too much carbon and melting the polar ice caps.

And I’ll probably be making a call to the RSPCA (Animal Rescue) to report Santa’s abuse to animals. Getting those reindeers to travel around the world in one day must be a torture for them.

Santa, here are a few Eco Christmas tips you may want to consider:

Working For a Great Arss This Summer

No…. I’m not talking about working for your ‘boss’. I’m talking about something a little bit closer to home, your beautiful butt.

I’ll admit it! When I walk behind someone on the street, whether the person is male or female, I’ll check out the person’s arss.

It’s the attribute that stands out the most when looking at someone from the behind, and its one of the most alluring attributes to have for attracting guys.

Unfortunately for us ladies, having a great bikini arss this summer will not be that easy. Thanks to the female hormone oestrogen, fat that enters our body goes directly to our thighs and lower waist.

The flabby butt will not be easy to shape, but we still have time! Today is the 25th of November. With dedication and commitment, we can trim, tone and shape our arss into a butt quenching machine just in time for Christmas (in 4 weeks).

It’s time to mark out your butt quenching calender and start your arss shaping regime, otherwise the only great arss you’ll be getting this summer is your ‘boss’.

Click here to continue reading and find out how to trim your arss this summer and make your butt as shapely as it can be

Salt Water Skin Care Benefits

What’s the secret ingredient to French Fries……… ‘SALT’. Without salt on your fries, you are practically just eating potatoes and not chips.

What do we do when we get a sore throat? We gargle some warm salty water! The salt in the water attaches itself to the infectious cells and draws out the moisture inside the cells, effectively dehydrating them until they are dried up and dead.

When used on the skin, salt can play an even bigger role with your beauty regime. Salt can help make your skin smooth and radiant. Lets find out how!

What are the Skin Care Benefits of Hydrosols?

I’m sure most of you have come across the word ‘hydrosol’ in the past when analyzing the ingredients in your skin care products. But what is hydrosol?

Simply put, hydrosol is the plant/flower water by-product that remains from the production of an essential oil during the steam distillation process.

During the production of essential oils, the steam distillation process of the aromatic plants results in two products:

1) the essential oil

2) the hydrosol (plant water)

During the cooling process, the oil soluble component is separated out from the water. And since the aromatic molecules has already passed through the water, the remaining hydrosol (water) is now enriched with a mixture of beneficial aromatic properties.

Now some hydrosols are considered to be a useless by-product. Other hydrosols, such as the rose hydrosol is considered a gem. You’ll find a lot of toner type products containing the floral hydrosol ingredient.

Lets find out the benefits you can obtain from using a hydrosol with your skin care regime?

The New Soybean Sunscreen - Non Toxic & Eco Friendly

Great news to the natural skin care world. New reports have indicated that scientists have found a way to convert soybean oil into a sunscreen that is both non-toxic and anti-aging. Presented by Joseph Lazlo, PhD to the American Chemical Society, it showed how ferulic acid can bring about this conversion. Both UV-A and UV-B lights are absorbed by such a sunscreen.

This means that in the near future, this natural soybean sunscreen agent could replace petroleum-derived ingredients in a variety of personal-care products.

Not only is the new bio-sunscreen more environmentally friendly and kinder to your skin, but it may also be more effective.

Skin Care Ingredients You May Be Allergic To

Ever wondered what is causing that rash or redness on your skin? Redness and skin irritation don’t just come out of nowhere. It must be triggered from by some form of reaction to a food you eat, something you have inhaled, the changing environmental factors or a skin care product applied.

The scientific term contact dermatitis falls into 2 categories: allergic and irritant. An allergic reaction is normally triggered by a reaction of the immune system. An irritant on the other hand is a reaction on the surface of the skin.

Most of us would have a sensitivity to some sort of ingredient and a recent survey conducted shows that at least 50 percent of women believe they have sensitive skin. MOST personal care products, makeup and skin care products are filled with ingredients that can cause skin irritation and allergies. Most people have a hard time finding products that won’t cause a reaction.

We are surrounded by allergens and irritants and its difficult to escape all the triggers. Many factors we can’t control, but for the things we can, such as the products we apply on our skin, we should try to eliminate as much as possible the ingredients that cause us irritation.

Here is a list of the most common skin irritating ingredients to avoid when purchasing your personal care products.

The Toxic Dangers of Oxybenzone in Sunscreens

There has been many articles written in this blog regarding the concerns of chemical UV absorbers used in sunscreen. But with summer approaching, I’ve recently been getting a constant stream of questions regarding a particular UV absorber ingredient used and concerns regarding the dangers it poses to one’s health.

The toxic ingredient in question is ‘oxybenzone‘. Oxybenzone’s function works as a UV absorber, ‘filtering’ ultra violet light on the surface of the skin by converting it from light to heat. The problem with this ingredient is the harmful free radical it produces during the (UV absorption) process. If light is converted to heat in the basal layers of the skin, damage to growing cells is very likely.

We Auzzies Love a Fair Go. Lets Go Fairtrade

Lets Give Fairtrade a Fair Go!

Living in Australia, we are blessed with endless opportunities. We are taught that if you work hard and work smart in life, success will not be far behind.

Less can be said about third world or war torn countries such as Africa, or developing countries such as India. Education is scarce, food is minimal…… but cheap labour is plenty.

So as business owners, we must be thinking - how do we exploit and discriminate to make an extra buck for our wallets. Simple! We give them a poor working environment and we pay them close to nothing for their hard labour, milking all their life and energy.

Is this injustice? Off course it is! They are born into an environment where they will never get the chance of proper education or to excel in their field of work. So is greater justice in this world possible? How can businesses be successful yet also put its people and workers first?

That’s where the heroes of the Fairtrade organization comes in.

Don’t Be Fooled by Labels that Reads ‘Fragrance Free’

Wow, the label reads ‘fragrance free‘. That must mean the product has no artificial fragrance added to it and it’s free of artificial scents. Right?

Our immediate perception when we read a claim that a product is fragrance free, is that it’s natural and free of artificial fragrances. But sadly the term ‘fragrance free’ simply means the product is ’smell free’.

Everything carries with it an adour or smell. To make a fragrance-free product, the manufacturer must neutralize the aroma by putting synthetic chemicals in the product. More chemicals means more toxins.

The Beautifying Effects of a Milk Bath for Your Skin

Pure milk in its natural form has been used for centuries as a beautifying skin ingredient. The key is the lactic acid found in milk which works as a gentle exfoliant to help dissolve dead skin cells buffing away flakiness to reveal a fresh layer of glowing skin.

The milk’s lactic acid is a form of natural alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). Unlike conventional products containing the AHA ingredients (normally 5 - 15% concentration) which may strip your skin and cause irritation and redness, the milk’s AHA is ultra gentle working to soothe, moisturise and exfoliate at the same time. The high fat content in milk means that it is excellent use for those with dry skin.

10 Reasons Why Organic Food Cost More

You walk through the supermarket ailes comparing prices of the strawberries in the fruit section. One punnet is $3.99 and another punnet which is certified organic is $6.99. Almost doubled in price. Depending where in Australia you purchase organic produce you can expect to pay around 20 - 100% premium.

So is the higher price for organic food justified?

Organic food has taken some beating from the public due to the expensive price tag that comes with it. Now we can go into a debate about the claims of scientific evidence showing organic produce containing more nutrition. Or counter reports showing organic produce having no nutritional advantage over conventional foods.

The fact is, the higher price for organics has nothing to do with the nutritional value of the product.

What we do know for sure is that organic produce contains no herbicides, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, insecticides, growth hormones, GMOs, antibiotics, artificial additives, flavourings, colourings and chemical preservatives etc……. So you are putting less toxins into your body when consuming organic foods.

So does the health aspect for organic foods alone justify for the almost doubling in price tag? Off course not! Here are 10 more reasons why organic food cost more?

There are 2 schools of thought. Some swear by the use of a night moisturiser before retiring to bed, while others follow a more holistic approach and don’t put anything on after cleansing and toning at night.

It really depends on the individual and how your skin responds to the different night time treatment methods. But the best way to find out what works best for you is to trial both methods. Allow a month to yourself without the use of any moisturisers before going to bed and another month with moisturisers at night, then weigh out the results to see how your skin reacts after 28 days.

Hair Salons Can Be a Chemical Factory

From changing hair colours, getting perms and deep treatments, to adding curls and fancy hair styles, some hair salons perform as many as 50 - 100 chemical applications every day, filling the room with noxious indoor air contaminants, such as ammonia (found in hair dyes and hair lighteners) and lye (used in hair relaxers), which can cause headaches and irritate respiratory passages.

Eye Concealer Tips

In the dark with dim lighting, wrinkles, fine lines and blemishes around the eyes are difficult to spot. It is during the day, under the unforgiving sunlight and strong flourescent lighting that every skin blemish becomes noticeable. Makeup concealers help hide the imperfections, and is great at covering fine lines and dark eye circles. But the effects can back fire on you if concealers are not applied correctly. You end up with a creasing caking effect that can become worst than the blemishes themselves, and you end up with an uneven look that can become embarrassing to show.

Here are a few eye concealer tricks and trades you can employ to avoid the cracks from settling in.

Don’ts For Acne

Ditch your chemical acne treatment regime, and switch to a completely natural routine.

Here are 9 acne DON’Ts to help prevent pimples.

1) Don’t Over Cleanse or Over Scrub

Don’t over cleanse or over scrub. As tempting as it is to achieve that squeaky clean feeling with your cleanser, the over cleansing effect can dry out your skin causing your oil glands to work overdrive to compensate for the dryness.

The harsh over scrubbing effect may cause too much pressure to your skin as it gets overly irritated and inflamed with constant harsh rubbing.

How to Get Rid of Your Back Acne Problems

Back Acne

Better to have acne on the back than the face, right? But wouldn’t it be even better to be acne free and have no acne at all.

Although back acne can be easily covered up with clothing, come summer time when the weather starts to heat up and you want to reveal a bit more skin, then wearing a singlet or a bikini can become rather embarrassing if you have a back full of dots.

The process to treat back acne is similar to that for treating the acne on your face. Cleanse, exfoliate, detoxify and hydrate. However, since there are more sebaceous glands in the back area and the skin is much thicker, back acne is more resistant to normal acne treatments and can be especially tough to treat. Back acne can take the form of pimples, blackheads, or whiteheads, but often they come as deep, painful cysts.

Soleo Organics Sunscreen Rated Number 1 by EWG

It’s no surprise that Soleo Organics Sunscreen has once again been rated the safest most effective sunscreen by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), and awarded the 2009 Product Merit Award by the Nutrition Business Journal.

The Soleo Sunscreen has come a long way. In 1999, creator ‘Leo Fung’ began searching for a safe chemical free sunscreen for his mother which was being treated with skin cancer. The scorching Australian sun is not kind to one’s fragile skin.

Leo looked long and hard but failed in his quest to find a sunscreen that was natural and organic in the market. Why Am I Always So Sleepy?

Why Am I Always So Sleepy?

You’re healthy, you average 8 - 10 hours sleep, life is not stressful, work is not hectic, you exercise, you eat healthy, you go to sleep early, you are not sick, you take multi-vitamins, you don’t drink coffee, you have a suitable bed and pillow, blood iron levels are normal, you’re not on medication, you don’t party late, and you’re not pregnant, but you still feel sleepy and lethargic all the time.

If that’s the case, then you better go see a doctor (eastern and western) and get yourself checked out immediately. You may be suffering from an undiagnosed medical illness that needs to be addressed such as a thyroid issue, a sleeping problem or blood sugar problem.

If you’ve had medical tests done and there are no underlying medical issues dragging you down, then you may be suffering from a very common lifestyle condition called the “lazy bone syndrome”.

Don't Forget the Sun Protection for Your Lips

SPF Lip Balm

At this day and age, we tend to be well educated with the importance of sun protection and the damages it does to your skin.

But when it comes to sun protection for the lips, we often turn a blind eye. Lips are actually more vulnerable to sun damage, as the skin layer protecting it is very thin and its inability to produce enough melanin (skin pigments), means that it is incapable of blocking out the damaging effects of UVA and UVB rays alone. Help is needed. Daily lip care is important to keep your lips from cracking, burning, chapping and cold sores.

How Dry Skin Brushing Can Improve Your Health?

Dry Brushing

How does our body respond to the build up of toxins within our bodies? Well the human body is a fascinating piece of work. We have numerous detoxification systems in place through the working mechanisms of our organs and glands to flush out any unwanted rubbish. These organs include the kidneys, liver, lungs, mucous membranes, lymphatic system….. and lets not forget THE SKIN.

All mechanisms should work together as a team to work at full capacity. So if the skin isn’t breathing properly, it also puts additional stress on other members (liver and kidneys) to detoxify what could otherwise be directed out of the body through the skin.
